Vinyl Night — Live Music on the Upper West Side
Live music with David Kastin
Vinyl, from his own collection
On the second and last Thursday of each month, David Kastin brings a set of records from his personal collection and plays them in our bar and dining room. It stays moderate and never intrusive, and we're live from 8 to 11PM.
There's no cover. Just bring yourself and good vibes. Sit at the bar or stay for dinner — the records are on all night, here on the Upper West Side, one block from the Beacon Theatre.

David Kastin
David's been chasing records since 1975. I'll let him tell it.
“I bought my first record in 1975. It was Aerosmith's debut album. Ever since then I have had a love affair with vinyl. By the way, I still have that album. It started with early-70s rock, then late-70s disco à la Studio 54, then punk, post-punk and new wave, and my collection grew. In the late 80s I found an old-school NYC dance party called The Loft, DJed by none other than David Mancuso, and it changed my life — disco, funk, soul, house, rock, post-punk, so eclectic and inspiring. It wasn't just the music, it was the vibe and the energy. You felt part of a community. It made me want to share my records with others, and I still do. For me, DJing was never about the mix into the next record — it was about what that record was going to be.” Always looking for that next journey.

What is Vinyl Night at Sempre Oggi?
Live music with David Kastin, spinning vinyl from his own collection. It's a free night at Sempre Oggi — our Michelin-listed Italian spot on the Upper West Side — with records playing across the bar and the dining room. The volume stays moderate, so you can listen, talk, and have dinner all at once.
When is Vinyl Night — what days and times?
Thursday nights, 8 to 11PM, twice a month — generally the second and last Thursday, through September. The remaining 2026 dates are July 16, July 30, August 13, August 27, September 10, and September 24.
Is there a cover charge?
No cover. Just bring yourself and good vibes. Come for a full dinner or a drink at the bar while the records play.
Who is the DJ?
That's David Kastin. He's a lifelong collector — he bought his first record, Aerosmith, in 1975, and his taste was shaped by David Mancuso's legendary New York party, The Loft. He plays entirely from his own collection: 70s rock, Studio 54-era disco, punk, post-punk, and new wave.
What kind of music does he play?
Disco, funk, soul, house, rock, and post-punk — all from his own records — kept at a moderate, conversation-friendly volume across the bar and the dining room.
How close is Sempre Oggi to the Beacon Theatre?
One block. We're steps from the Beacon — about a two- or three-minute walk, with the theatre on Broadway between 74th and 75th. It's an easy stop for dinner or a drink before or after a show.
Is it within walking distance of Lincoln Center?
Yes — about a ten-minute walk south, near 66th Street. We're at 164 West 75th, between Amsterdam and Columbus, so it's an easy walk to or from a performance.
Do I need a reservation, or can I walk in?
Either works. Walk-ins are welcome and there's no cover, but if you want a table for dinner, book ahead on OpenTable or call us at (212) 377-7150.
Is it in the bar, the dining room, or both?
Both. David's records play across the whole room — bar and dining room — at a volume that's never intrusive, whether you're grabbing a drink or sitting down for a full meal.
What else is nearby for out-of-town guests?
We're right off Amsterdam Avenue, steps from the Beacon Theatre and about ten minutes from the Museum of Natural History, with Lincoln Center a short walk south and Central Park a short walk east. If you're staying nearby — say, The Wallace Hotel on West 76th — we're a few minutes' walk, and the 1/2/3 stops at 72nd Street, about four minutes away.
