Events Space UWS - Events FAQ
The Spaces
Does Sempre Oggi have semi-private event spaces?
Yes. We have four distinct spaces: the Alcove (up to 16 seated), the Garden Room (up to 36 seated, 55 standing), the Main Dining Room (up to 50 seated, 75 standing), and the Bar (up to 60 standing). All spaces are semi-private. Full restaurant buyouts accommodate 86–100 guests.
How many people can you accommodate for a private event?
From an intimate dinner for 16 in the Alcove to a full restaurant buyout for up to 100. We work with groups of all sizes and can help you find the right space for your headcount and occasion.
Are the spaces fully private or semi-private?
All of our event spaces are semi-private — your guests have a dedicated area within the natural warmth of a working restaurant. For complete privacy, a full restaurant buyout is the only option. Most hosts find the semi-private model is exactly what they want.
What is the difference between the Alcove, the Garden Room, and the Main Dining Room?
The Alcove is our most intimate space — a single long table for up to 16, ideal for rehearsal dinners, birthday dinners, and small corporate gatherings. The Garden Room seats up to 36, with hand-painted artwork and the signature energy of the room — well suited to celebrations and receptions. The Main Dining Room accommodates up to 50 seated and is the anchor of a full evening.
Can I rent out the whole restaurant?
Yes. Full restaurant buyouts begin at $35,000 in food and beverage minimum (exclusive of tax and gratuity) and include every space — the Bar, the Main Dining Room, the Garden Room, and the Alcove — plus our full team for the evening. Ideal for milestone celebrations, corporate events, and brand activations. Submit an inquiry on our events page to begin.
Occasions & Landmarks
Can I host a rehearsal dinner at Sempre Oggi?
Yes — rehearsal dinners are one of our most frequent private events. The Alcove is ideal for groups up to 16; the Garden Room accommodates up to 36. Both offer the warmth and occasion the night deserves. Submit an inquiry on our events page to start planning.
Is Sempre Oggi good for a pre-show or post-show dinner near the Beacon Theater?
We're a one-block walk from the Beacon. Pre-show, a 5:00 or 5:30 table gives you time to linger and still arrive early. Post-show, our kitchen serves through 10 PM — a late table or a seat at the bar for a drink and a few small plates is one of our favorite ways to close an evening. For private groups, we offer two seating windows: 5–8 PM and 8–11 PM.
We have tickets to Lincoln Center — does Sempre Oggi work for a pre-performance dinner?
Wonderfully. Lincoln Center is about five minutes south on foot or a short cab ride. A 5:30 or 6:00 reservation gives you a relaxed two-hour dinner with comfortable time to make curtain.
Can you accommodate a corporate dinner or team event?
Yes. We host corporate gatherings regularly — team dinners, client evenings, and holiday parties. The Alcove works well for smaller teams; the Garden Room and Main Dining Room for larger groups. We can build a preset menu around dietary needs and time constraints. Submit an inquiry on our events page to get started.
Do you host birthday parties and milestone dinners?
Absolutely. Mention the occasion when you inquire and we'll discuss what we can do — a written menu, a complimentary toast, a quiet corner table, candles for a cake. For proposals, please call us directly so we can plan with the care it deserves.
Do you host post-show receptions?
Yes — post-show receptions for Beacon Theater and Lincoln Center audiences are part of our regular rhythm. We can program a single seating or bridge two windows (5–8 PM and 8–11 PM) to accommodate groups arriving at different times.
We're spending the day at the American Museum of Natural History — does Sempre Oggi work for a group dinner afterward?
Yes. AMNH is a short walk north, and we're a natural landing spot after a museum afternoon. Weekend brunch is especially well-suited to families coming from the museum. For larger groups, ask about our semi-private event spaces.
Booking & Logistics
How do I book a semi-private event?
Fill out our events inquiry form with your occasion, date, and headcount and we'll be in touch quickly. From there: a site visit if you'd like one, contract, deposit, then menu planning and run of show with our team.
How far in advance should I book?
Most clients book 6 to 12 weeks out. December and major holiday weekends often book three to four months in advance. A weeknight Alcove dinner can sometimes be arranged inside two weeks. Earlier is always better.
Is there a food and beverage minimum?
Yes. The F&B minimum is the spend threshold your event must reach across food and beverage to reserve the space. Minimums vary by space and are detailed in your contract. There is no separate room rental fee. Tax (8.875%) and gratuity are added on top of the minimum.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. Deposit terms are outlined in your contract. Generally, deposits are non-refundable inside a defined window before the event, with sliding terms further out.
Do you offer beverage packages?
We don't — all beverage is charged on consumption. You pay for exactly what your party drinks, and our team can guide pours and pacing in real time. If you'd like to pre-select wines, our captain can curate a list to suit the menu and budget.
Who looks after our event on the night?
Every event has a dedicated captain on the floor, supported by Sempre Oggi management. You'll have a clear point of contact from booking through service.
Menus & Experience
Do you do a preset menu for events?
Yes — preset menus are required for groups of nine or more. Your preset is built collaboratively with our events team: typically three or four courses, written around the season, with options that account for the range of your guests' tastes. It's how our kitchen executes beautifully and how your service moves with precision.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions for the whole group?
Yes. Please share all dietary needs with our captain and team at least 72 hours in advance. Most pastas, antipasti, and main courses can be adapted for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and common allergen needs — without losing the soul of the dish.
Can we bring a cake?
Yes. Guests are welcome to bring cakes, floral arrangements, and custom tablescaping. We'll coordinate cake delivery and service, provide vases and standard table elements as needed. Share your plans with our captain a week out so we can sequence the room properly.
Can we bring a musician or DJ?
Yes. We accommodate acoustic musicians and small ensembles in any of our event spaces; full DJ setups are best suited to the Garden Room or a full buyout. Volume parameters and load-in details are coordinated in advance.
Can we do a wine pairing with the preset menu?
Yes. Our beverage director will work with our captain and beverage director to pair wines course by course, or pre-select a flexible list. Pairings are charged on consumption like everything else.
Can we customize cocktails for our event?
Yes — within reason. We can add a signature cocktail or two for the night, name them after the occasion, and pre-batch where it makes sense for service speed. We'll talk through what's feasible during menu planning.
What's the photography policy?
You're welcome to bring a photographer or videographer. We ask that other guests in the restaurant not be photographed without their consent, and that flash use be moderate during dinner service.
